FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Salvation Army now taking appointments for Christmas program registration

LA CROSSE – Hundreds of families that are looking for community support during the holidays are now one step closer to getting the help they need.

The Salvation Army of La Crosse is now taking appointments for people to sign up for ‘Christmas Food Baskets’ and the ‘Angel Giving Tree’.  In 2016, The Salvation Army moved to an appointment system to help organize registration, where approximately 500 families sign up to receive support.  This year, families that want to sign up for the two programs will once again be required to make an appointment to register by phone (608-782-6126) or in-person (The Salvation Army of La Crosse, 223 N. 8th Street).

“Hundreds of families come through our doors during a small window of time,” said Nick Ragner of The Salvation Army. “With the appointment system, we can make sure that each family has an allotted amount of time for us to help them sign up and answer any questions they may have.”

Nothing is needed to set up an appointment.  At the time of registration, families will be required to bring a form of identification, proof of household size, and proof of need.  Registration will be held in the basement of The Salvation Army and will take approximately 15 minutes during the following hours:

Tuesday, October 31: 10:00am-2:00pm

Wednesday, November 1: 10:00am-2:00pm & 4:00pm-7:00pm

Thursday, November 2: 10:00am-2:00pm

Friday, November 3: 10:00am-2:00pm

Up to 500 households will be able to sign up for each Christmas program.  Families with children ages 0-14 will be able to sign up for both ‘Christmas Food Baskets’ and the ‘Angel Giving Tree’.  ‘Christmas Food Baskets’ will include the necessary foods for a traditional holiday dinner as well a few extra items to help families stock their shelves.  The ‘Angel Giving Tree’ provides children with clothing and shoes.

To help as many families as possible, The Salvation Army of La Crosse is partnering with other agencies in the community to avoid the duplication of services.
